Dr. Michael Richmond is originally from Columbia, Louisiana. He completed his undergraduate studies at Northeast Louisiana University (now known as University of Louisiana, Monroe) and continued onto Louisiana Tech University, earning a Master’s degree in Biology. Next, he obtained his medical degree at Louisiana State University. Dr. Richmond then moved to Richmond, VA and completed his residency & fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Sciences Center in Cardiac Anesthesiology. He is board-certified in echocardiography.
Dr. Richmond has 10+ plus years of experience in Cardiac Anesthesiology. In addition to Dr. Richmond’s cardiac anesthesiology experience, his additional specialty areas include level-one trauma, labor epidural & spinal injection, conscious sedation, difficulty airway management and ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia. His excellency with ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia has made for an easy transition into therapeutic venous procedures & treating venous disease.
Dr. Richmond met his wife, Amy (Loflin), a Lynchburg native, during his time at VCU. They returned to Lynchburg in 2013 and have 3 kids & 2 dogs. In addition to serving the community through his medical practice, Dr. Richmond & his family enjoy snow skiing, playing tennis and supporting their kids’ school community at New Covenant Schools.
He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology and the Society of Cardiac Anesthesiology. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine.
