What are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins are the result of the valves in the vein no longer close completely causing blood to pool in the vein thus weakening the vein walls. The vein walls then become enlarged resulting in varicose veins. 

What are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are very small varicose veins that usually do not cause symptoms but may be a sign of deeper issues in surrounding veins.

What causes Varicose Veins?

  2. Family history
  3. Lack of exercise
  4. Prolonged standing or sitting
  5. Excess weight
Will my insurance cover this procedure?

The procedure is covered by most insurance companies. The treatment for spider veins is not covered by insurance as it is considered cosmetic. Give us a call at (434)-333-6799 if you have any questions!

How soon after treatment will my symptoms improve?

Most patients notice improvement of symptoms within 1 week.

Is there scarring, bruising or swelling after this procedure?

There may be minor bruising after varicose vein procedures. Scarring is very rare.

Are all bluish surface veins varicose veins?

No, people with fair skin and/or thin skin are more prone to veins showing through skin. Varicose veins are raised and more noticeable when you stand up.

How long before I can resume my daily normal activity?

The procedure is done in our office and you are able to walk out and continue normal life when it is finished!

What's the difference between arteries and veins?

Arteries pump blood away from the heart delivering oxygen throughout the body. Veins bring the blood back to the heart to get more oxygen.
